Sarah MacEntee is a music educator completing her Master’s degree in Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from Binghamton University. Her work is grounded in inclusive, student-centered pedagogy and informed by a commitment to equity, access, and meaningful musical engagement for all learners.

Through her preparation at Teachers College, Sarah has completed extensive student teaching placements in New York City public schools, working across a wide range of instructional contexts. These experiences have strengthened her ability to design responsive instruction and have shaped her understanding of music education as a relational, contextual, and deeply human practice.

Sarah’s teaching approach is guided by culturally responsive pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning, and a process-centered philosophy of music-making. She prioritizes student voice, collaboration, and creative exploration, designing learning experiences that offer multiple pathways for participation and expression. Her classroom practice emphasizes musical understanding, community-building, and reflective engagement rather than performance outcomes alone.

In addition to her work in schools, Sarah brings experience as a private music instructor and community outreach performer. These experiences continue to inform her belief in music as a powerful vehicle for connection, expression, and belonging across the lifespan, and reinforce her commitment to making music education accessible beyond traditional performance spaces.

Sarah approaches teaching as an evolving and reflective practice, grounded in care, curiosity, and professional responsibility. She is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to school communities that value inclusion, creativity, and collaboration, and she is committed to building music classrooms where students feel affirmed, challenged, and empowered as musicians and learners.
